JUST finished watching this. Makes my blood boil. The hypocrisy is shameful. T his is a bipartisan issue, regardless of party. Congress are ready any second to shout from the rooftops about supporting the troops and wrapping themselves in the flag and singing praises of these heroes “Never forget” and all that jingoistic feel good messages, only to turn around cruelly screw them over.

I mean there are B illions of dollars being wasted on useless programs and subsidies but it is so hard to give these people what they rightfully deserve? Fuck that noise.

Yeah this has been going on for awhile. The whole Zadroga bill has been a shitshow for nearly a decade with those oh so fiscally conservative R epublicans filibustering it in the senate so it couldn’t pass in 2010.

You could argue that they ARE doing their job. The problem could be that you have much higher expectations as to the results of them doing their jobs than they do...

In Australia, we have low expectations of our political class. Sometimes they actually manage to exceed them...

It’s really because they didn't think of all the things that we needed laws for in the initial Constitution and had to amend it. There weren't laws about smoking indoors until society was aware of the harm and it became a problem.

I’m too tired from teaching today to teach a lesson on early American politics, but you’re basically completely wrong.

Our original governing document, didn’t give any power to the feds because our founding fathers had no trust in the political class. This allowed a group of veterans in Massachusetts to run rickshaw because there was no central Army to stop them (Shay’s Rebellion).

It wasn’t until after this that the Federalists gained steam in writing a new governing document, the Constitution. In order to keep the Antifederalists on board, the BoR were proposed. They were proposed before the Constitution was ratified.
